Build Confidence, Friendships and Lifelong Skills Through Cheerleading With Ultimate Cheer

10/06/2026

For parents looking for an activity that combines fitness, teamwork, confidence-building and plenty of sparkly fun, Ultimate Cheer offers an extensive and exciting programme of classes for children aged 3 to 17 years.

Cheerleading is one of the fastest-growing sports in the UK and one of the reasons families are increasingly drawn to it is the variety it offers. Combining elements of dance, gymnastics, acrobatics and team sport, cheerleading helps children develop strength, flexibility, coordination and resilience while having fun in a supportive group environment. Athletes learn a variety of skills, from tumbling and jumps to stunts, where teammates work together to safely lift and support one another as part of a routine.

Based at La Retraite, Ultimate Cheer welcomes families from across Clapham and beyond. The club offers a wide range of opportunities, including beginners’ recreational classes, stunt development sessions, tumbling-specific classes and workshops, private skill tuition and even birthday parties.

Now in its ninth year, Ultimate Cheer has built a reputation for creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where children of all abilities can learn new skills, make friends and grow in confidence. Whether they are taking their very first steps into cheerleading or dreaming of competing at the highest levels, they have pathways for a wide range of ages and experience levels.

Their flagship offering is their range of competitive cheerleading teams, which compete throughout the UK and internationally. In recent years, athletes have represented the club at prestigious events including the All Star World Championship in Florida and the European Summit in Portugal. Even the club’s youngest team, Heartbreakers, takes to the competition floor, with athletes aged just 4 to 6 years old competing twice a year in England.

Competitive routines combine stunts, tumbling, jumps and dance, creating exciting performances while helping athletes develop athletic skills and learn the value of commitment, trust and working towards shared goals alongside their teammates.

For families who are new to cheerleading, Ultimate Cheer makes it easy to get started. Children can join a two-week taster before committing to any of the programme’s offerings, giving them the opportunity to experience classes, meet coaches and get a feel for the club atmosphere. These taster sessions are available throughout the entire season, which runs from August to the end of June.

The club’s development programmes are particularly popular with children who want to improve their skills without the pressure of competition. Athletes work on stunts, jumps, tumbling and performance skills at their own pace while enjoying the social side of being part of a team. For many children, these classes provide the perfect introduction to the sport and a stepping stone to future opportunities should they wish to progress.

With a team of highly qualified coaches, including two World Championship-winning athletes, and a central Clapham training facility complete with an air track and specialist tumbling equipment, Ultimate Cheer continues to inspire young athletes across South West London.

Whether a child dreams of competing internationally or simply wants to stay active, learn new skills and be part of a welcoming community, Ultimate Cheer offers a pathway to suit every athlete. With expert coaching and opportunities for all ages and abilities, it’s easy to see why so many local families are discovering the sport.

For families interested in the competitive pathway, team tryouts take place twice a year in March and June.
