Renowned Eaton House Schools, which won the three biggest UK scholarships in 2025 –the King’s Scholarship at Westminster, the John Colet at St Paul’s Boys and the Millennium Scholarship at Brighton College– has a fresh ‘forward momentum’ under new Principal, Mrs Alison Fleming.
‘These are precious years for our pupils’ says Mrs Fleming. ‘They are years that they cannot squander, where they lay the foundation for their future lives.’ As such, she is determined that pupils will learn holistically, with happiness at school going hand in hand with academic success.
‘I want children to fall in love with learning and be excited about coming to school’ she says. ‘I want them to go home chattering about what they’ve learned –after all, Prep schools lay the foundations for everything that comes later.’
Formidably qualified, having worked in the Independent and State sectors and spent 12 years as Head of Newton Prep and 4 years as Head of Dulwich College Junior School, she sees the educational ‘giant’ that is the 2-site 4-school Eaton House Schools group as an exciting challenge.
‘This is a really interesting model – the idea of single sex education where boys can be boys and girls can be girls and adopt the learning styles that suit them, and yet, here they are on the same site.
‘There is something quite unique about that, and with working with such an amazing team of Heads who are so full of ideas and love for their schools and the children that they are teaching,’ she says.
Values are important to her. ‘You want children who are working hard, giving their best effort and forming good and mutually respectful relationships with each other.’
In future, there will be more collaboration between the girls’ and the boys’ schools and more training in cutting edge technology. ‘But I can’t say too much about this just yet!’ she laughs.
Parents will soon notice an even warmer, more modern and more welcoming tone to the school, in which traditionalism will be married with the need to prepare pupils for a future that is full of challenge as well as excitement. We will just have to watch this space!
