Meet Maria, founder of Studio Benaki, a South West London-based interior design studio creating homes where flow and function sit alongside personality and character.
With a background in engineering and a long-standing love of architecture, art and interiors, Maria brings both creative thinking and a highly practical approach to her work.
Maria’s design philosophy starts with purpose and a belief that a home should feel personal to the people who live there. She starts every project by understanding how our clients live, what is and isn’t working in their home, how they move through their space and what matters most to them. These practical considerations are woven together with the more personal questions: what are they drawn to, what do they own and love, and ultimately, how do they want their home to feel? Understanding all of these elements is key to creating a home that works beautifully, feels deeply personal and stands the test of time.
For many families, the hardest part of renovating a home is understanding what needs to change and where to begin to make their space work harder for family life. Renovating brings hundreds of interconnected decisions, from layout, flow and storage to where to invest, what to retain and how to bring everything together. Her role is to bring clarity to that process. She turn a family’s needs, ideas and aspirations into a clear vision, helping them see the potential of their space and make confident, considered decisions along the way.
Studio Benaki works with families across London and further afield, on projects ranging from single-room transformations to full home renovations, as well as focused 2-hour Design Consultations. Tailored to each client, the consultations offer expert direction on anything from layout, storage and colour to furniture and finishes, and are particularly useful for homeowners who feel stuck, want to explore the possibilities for their space or simply need a clear direction before moving forward.
