LEYF Weir Link, a community nursery in Balham

Located inside The Weir Link community centre, close to Clapham South and Balham, LEYF Weir Link Nursery and Pre-School provides Early Years education and childcare for children from birth to 5 years old and is rated Good by Ofsted. The bright, open-plan nursery has dedicated spaces for younger and older children, as well as a large garden.

At Weir Link, learning is inspired through curiosity and discovery. Children enjoy lots of activities with experienced staff, from messy play in the mud kitchen to sensory play, yoga, science experiments, growing herbs and much more.

LEYF believes that children learn best through relationships, play and real experiences. Teachers take time to understand each child: their interests, their family life and what helps them feel safe and confident. Learning is shaped around what matters to them.

This approach is part of LEYF’s Social Justice Pedagogy, developed by CEO Dr. June O’Sullivan OBE, and delivered every day by expert teachers, which puts equity and every child’s right to thrive at the heart of nursery life.

Families are an important part of life at Weir Link. Parents are encouraged to get involved too, reading stories to the children in their native languages, helping to celebrate the different cultures and experiences within the community.

Strong relationships between families and nursery teachers also mean children are well known and any need for additional support can be identified early. Sustainability is woven into everyday learning too, helping children understand more about the world around them and how they can care for it.

Parents describe LEYF Weir Link Nursery and Pre-School as having a “real sense of community”, with monthly family events praised as “amazing” in its latest Ofsted report.

And of course, busy days need plenty of fuel. Weir Link has its own chef, who prepares meals for the children using recipes from LEYF’s nutritious Early Years menu.

By building strong links between home and nursery,  their Pedagogy supports children not just for school, but for life.
