Preparing for the 11+ by Laura Nike

At Wandsworth Prep, we believe in preparing pupils for the 11+ process in a gradual and supportive way. Reasoning skills are taught systematically throughout each year of the school journey and we deliver inspiring and rigorous Maths and English lessons that prepare pupils for future success. We believe in a project approach where learning is interconnected, immersive, creative and active and we tailor learning to meet each child’s unique interests and needs.

In Year 5 and 6, as the pupils continue the process of preparing for the 11+, we offer an enriching curriculum that enhances the pupils’ learning experience during the school day with horse riding lessons, forest school, rock climbing, sports, drama, music and language lessons.

Preparing pupils for the interview element of the 11+ process, is a crucial part of what we offer.  We provide opportunities for the children to develop into confident speakers starting from reception where they present to parents during the whole class showcase.  We also carry out many activities to further nurture this such as a poetry cafe, world book day, showcases, LAMDA drama classes, enterprise sales, productions, open mornings with children giving tours and home learning project presentations.  In year 6 our Educational Directors provide interview preparation for both individual and group interviews and provide detailed feedback to support pupils to showcase who they are. For further interview prep, Year 6 visit the Google Offices where they not only get the chance to polish up their interview technique but also come back thoroughly inspired!

For those joining the school in-year, we provide a fast track programme tailored to build on prior knowledge and to develop new skills where necessary so that they are fully prepared for success.

After the exams in year 6, the children have post exam fun followed by a transition programme designed to prepare the pupils to flourish as they move to secondary school.

Alongside preparing the pupils for the 11+ process, we also guide parents along the way too with reasoning workshops, bespoke guidance for school choices and a yearly secondary school fair. Our destination schools can be found on our website.  We are very proud that all our pupils go to their school of choice.
