Festival of Stories

06/11/2026

Following the success of last year’s Festival of Stories and the wonderful feedback from within the Clapham local community, Dukes Festival of Stories will once again bring together some of the UK’s most beloved children’s authors, illustrators and performers for a joyful day of storytelling, creativity and imagination.

This will be held at Eaton House The Manor School in Clapham on Saturday 21st November and is open to all. Events and activities are tailored for children aged 2-12 years old.

This celebration of children’s stories features an incredible line up of family favourites including Rachel Bright, Benji Davies, Emma Farrons and Onjali Q Rauf to name but a few.  Local families can expect a day packed with inspiring talks, workshops and activities including a bug show, puppets, comic club, character meet and greets, book signings, storytime, draw-alongs, crafts, facepainting and much more.

Kevin and Katie Tsang’s book The Neverland Thieves has just been shortlisted for the Waterstones Book of the Year. There are only 3 children’s books on the list so that is kudos for them.

And Struan Murray’s latest book just became a NY Times bestseller. He’s currently in the US promoting his book and will be back for the festival.

Plus… Gyles Brandreth will be there to celebrate Winnie-the-Pooh at 100

A bear of very little brain, a boy called Christopher Robin, and a story that has enchanted the world for 100 years.

Join writer and broadcaster Gyles Brandreth for a very special journey into the Hundred Acre Wood, celebrating the centenary of A. A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh.

Drawing on his new book Somewhere, a Boy and a Bear – and his own memories of knowing the real Christopher Robin – Gyles brings to life the remarkable story behind Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Tigger and their friends, and reveals how a father telling stories to his young son created some of the best-loved characters in children’s literature.

A joyful celebration of stories, childhood and the world’s most famous bear – for anyone who has ever loved Winnie-the-Pooh.

With research showing that reading for pleasure is in decline, the festival wanted to bring back something special to help children rediscover the excitement of stories and books in this, The National Year of Reading. The festival is about celebrating the simple magic of being read to, meeting an author, or finding that one book that suddenly makes reading come alive.
