A new community choir for parents is launching in Clapham this May, designed with family life in mind
Crib Notes Choir offers something a little different from the traditional choir. These are daytime sessions created especially for parents and carers of young children, making it easier to take part when evening commitments or childcare make other choirs difficult to attend. Whether you have a baby or toddler in tow, or your children are already at school, the sessions are designed to fit around you – and little ones are welcome to the rehearsals.
Crib Notes Choir is a series of choir clubs in different venues around South London. Each club learns the same music and members are welcome to attend whichever clubs suit them and as many sessions as they wish each week. As with other choirs, the social aspect and building a sense of community is a key feature of Crib Notes Choir. Members are encouraged to socialise before or after rehearsals and the choir also works towards termly relaxed performances, where the singers can perform all the pieces they have been learning during the term.

Singing has huge mental, physical and emotional benefits, all of which are amplified when you sing as part of a group. Additionally, the choir offers:
– A supportive and flexible space which you can enjoy with your little one
– A space to meet other local parents and create a sense of community
– The chance to take a break and let someone else lead for an hour
– A place to do something fun, relaxing and creative for you; filling your cup so you are able to be your best for your little one.

The singing in rehearsals is entirely a cappella; everything is done with our voices, with no backing tracks or instrumental accompaniment, which the little ones particularly engage with and benefit from. The choir sings a range of music, from pop to folk, world and sea shanties, ranging from simple harmonies to more complex arrangements, and there is a strictly no nursery rhyme policy! Everything is taught by ear (though music and lyric sheets are provided) with as much repetition as necessary.
They are open to all parents – including foster and adoptive parents and guardians; parents with babies and toddlers and those whose children are at school. They also welcome grandparents, nannies and others caring for young children on a regular basis.

The new Clapham group launches on Monday 11th May at 1:00pm at St Barnabas Church, Clapham Common Northside, joining a growing network of Crib Notes Choirs across South London.
