Step into a magical world of music and story-telling at Battersea Arts Centre this February half term.
Following their sold-out family concert last year, Chromatica Orchestra returns to Battersea Arts Centre this February half term with another musical family adventure where instruments come to life and imaginations can run wild.
This year join fearless hero Peter as he comes up with a clever trick and finds a big dose of courage to help him outsmart the sneaky wolf and save his animal friends, in Prokofiev’s children’s orchestral classic Peter and the Wolf.
This concert is the perfect way to introduce young ears to the brilliant sounds of a live orchestra and, whether your youngster is a budding maestro or just loves a good story, they will be enthralled and enchanted as the flute flutters like a bird, the clarinet slinks like a cat , and French horns prowl like a big, bad wolf.
With performances at 2pm and 4.30pm this 1-hour show promises a fun-filled afternoon packed with drama, delight, and just a dash of danger.
Conductor Tess Jackson and presenter Rain Spiegel-Johnson will guide you through the music and reveal the awesome sounds of orchestral instruments. Members of Chromatica Orchestra will be joined on stage by inspirational young musicians from the Music in Secondary Schools Trust.
Chromatica Orchestra is the UK’s newest chamber orchestra. It is formed of early-career professional musicians who want to unleash the power of live orchestral music and nurture the next generation of musicians. They collaborate with exceptional emerging conductors and inspirational soloists to create extraordinary and memorable musical experiences.
Tess is Chromatica Orchestra’s Emerging Conductor Fellow. She has been named by Classic FM as a rising star and she is currently Associate Conductor of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, who she has conducted at the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall.
Rain Spiegel-Johnson is an actor, performance poet, and writer. A BRIT School graduate, she has worked with Hackney Empire and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. She is the winner of Hackney Empire’s Alter Ego competition (2024) and an alumna of INWRDS Cohort III led by Yomi Ṣode and Tristan Fynn-Aiduenu.
