Belleville School is a friendly, supportive, and successful school at the centre of our local community with two sites, Webb’s Road and Meteor Street. In March 2022, it retained its Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ rating in all areas, which it has held since 2007, continuing to provide an outstanding provision for the children and families it serves on either side of Clapham Common.
Belleville has reputation for leading the way in educational development and offers a ‘highly ambitious curriculum’ (Ofsted). As part of the Quality First Education Trust, they do ‘Whatever it takes’ to provide the best education for every child in their care, offering additional support or stretch where needed.
‘Pupils are safe and thrive at Belleville.’ and ‘They engage positively with their learning and show maturity when working alone or with others.’ (Ofsted)
While Belleville is a large school, they never lose sight of an individual child’s experience and wellbeing. Their CARE values encourage children to take responsibility for their learning, providing support and tools to develop these skills. With high expectations for behaviour, Belleville encourages children to reflect on whether they are ‘making the right choice’ and parents comment on how calm and focused the children are, even in the youngest years.
‘They are very well prepared for the next stages of their education.’ (Ofsted)
Children are happy and successful at Belleville and achieve well beyond the national average. You can hear what the children enjoy about Belleville here. In 2024, about half the Year 6 leavers transferred to Bolingbroke Academy (as the largest feeder school), and a quarter to other state schools, including into the selective stream at Graveney as a result of strong performances in the Wandsworth Test.
The final quarter transferred to independent schools, including Alleyn’s, Dulwich College, Emanuel, JAGS, Putney High, Streatham and Clapham High, and Whitgift. Many of the children who apply to independent schools receive multiple offers and scholarships.
This year, Belleville launched its own wrap-around care with a breakfast and after-school club, in addition to extra-curricular clubs with over 50 options, a programme of visiting speakers and external trips including residential trips in Years 5 and 6, and sporting competitions and festivals with other local schools. With the generous support of Belleville PTA, the playgrounds at both sites now have a multi-sports surface to improve the sports facilities the school offers. They also have an established Year 4 music programme in partnership with Wandsworth Music where every child is offered the opportunity to learn an orchestral instrument and play in a musical ensemble.
Belleville welcomes children from all parts of the local community and are ready and experienced to help your child settle in quickly, whether they join the school in Nursery, Reception, or in Years 1 to 6 if there are places available.
Belleville is hosting two Open Mornings on Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 November from 9.15am to noon with the opportunity to visit both the Webb’s Road and Meteor Street sites and hear from John Budden (Executive Headteacher) and Mary-Lyne Latour (Headteacher).
