Oliver House is a fee-paying, independent prep school in Clapham with a nursery too. It’s got a great reputation for high academic standards and has a deeply-rooted Catholic ethos.
The nursery at Oliver House was rated as ‘Outstanding’ in all areas in the 2011 ISI report while the prep school itself is rated “good” overall, with pupils’ personal development being rated as “outstanding”.
The school overlooks Clapham Common and has grown rapidly since it was founded in 2004. It was set up after a group of parents got together to tackle the lack of places in Catholic schools in the area. There are now more than 160 children at the school.
The nursery was added in September 2007. From there, the children go into pre-prep school, with all-day sessions running from 9am to 3.45pm. and then the prep school goes all the way up to the age of 11. Class sizes are small and children benefit from a genuine community feel. The Common, as well as the playground at the front of the school, is used for Sports.
The nursery costs £3,445 per term, pre-prep (reception) is £3,780, Year 1 and 2 £3,835 and the Prep School (Years 3 to 6) is £3,935 per term.
The school also runs a morning club from 8am and an after-school club until 5pm, for children of reception age and above, for an extra cost.
There’s strong competition for places at the school – you need to fill in an application form, and then attend an interview. Children aged six and above will be asked to sit a short test in numeracy and literacy.
