Nightingales has been described as South London’s best kept secret — well, not any more, because we’re about to tell you all about it!
It’s a lovely little nursery, providing warm and nuturing childcare and it’s tucked away in a converted house in the grassy, secure surrounds of St Francis Xavier College (an OFSTED outstanding Sixth Form college).
The nursery is a minute’s walk from Clapham South tube and you’ll see it just set back from Oliver House School but access is through the College on Malwood Road.
The nursery has a spacious outside area which plays host to organised games with hoops and balls, as well as sand and water play, a slide and much more. There’s also a vegetable patch, which the older children can help plant and look after.
With daily feedback on each child and a very child-orientated approach to activities, parents say the nursery helps their children become happy and confident little people, and the staff very much work in partnership with the parents and carers.
Three meals a day are provided at the nursery, freshly prepared on site by its own cook. You provide your own nappies, as well as a bottle and any special (non cow’s) milk requirements.
Children are looked after in three separate rooms; there’s one group of six babies aged between three months and two years, one group of eight toddlers aged between two and three, and another group of six pre-schoolers aged between three and five.
The nursery was recently rated ‘Good’ across the board by OFSTED.
There is usually a waiting list of a few months for babies, but there may be some toddler spaces available, depending on your needs.
Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, with morning sessions 8am to 12.30pm and afternoon sessions from 1.30pm to 6pm. Open 51 weeks of the year, closing for normal bank holidays and a week over Christmas and New Year.
