L’Ecole du Parc

28/09/2011

This is a French pre-school and nursery which caters for children aged one to five — but you don’t have to be a native French speaker to attend.

More than half of the children who attend are bilingual, but the remaining children are evenly split between those who speak only English when they start, and those who speak only French.

The school follows the French Department for Education’s educational programme but it’s also complemented with the English ‘Birth to Three Matters’ and foundation stage curriculum.

The main language at the school is French but there are some English teachers too and most teachers speak English. It’s a warm and friendly school, and small, with around 40 children and an active parents association.

The school is in a good location, close to Clapham Common, just off Lavender Hill in a house with a secure outside playground.

There are three sections to the school, the Pre Petite Section, which is a preparatory class for the youngest children, aged up to three, where the teacher/child ratio is one to four. Then there’s the Petite Section, for three- to four-year-olds, and the Moyenne Section, for four- to five-year-olds.

Sessions run on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8.20am to 3pm, and on Wednesdays from 8.20am to 12.30pm.
