We have created a list of classes that are in Clapham for babies, toddlers, and older children. We have everything from sports to art and craft, coding to dance, and everything in between! Most classes start in April and run till June, but please check the website for exact dates.

We are covering a lot of different types of classes so we have broken it down into categories:

1. Music, Dance & Drama

Funky Monkey Keyboard Lessons – see Clapham Mums article

For children between 4 to 9 years

Funky Monkey Keyboard Classes are designed to provide a comprehensive and stimulating introduction to keyboard/ piano skills, offering an ideal starting point for a child when he/she isn’t ready for individual lessons. The classes provide a stimulating balance of listening, playing, writing and performing music with the use of electronic keyboards and other fun props.

For babies from birth to 13 months

The classes assist with early learning and development through a variety of activities including: signing, massage, light shows, brain games, messy play, songs and puppet shows. These activities aim to build up a variety of sensory experiences using sight, sound, touch, smell and even taste!

Amanda’s Action Club– see Clapham Mums article

For babies from 4 months to 4 years

Amanda’s Action Club is a unique and stimulating sensory extravaganza for children. Amanda teaches children letters, numbers, colours, shapes and sounds, as well as self care, self confidence and independence. Using their own modern nursery rhymes and action bags full of props, they provide endless interactive activities.

Monkey Music

For babies from 3 months to 4 years

Every class is an adventure with action songs and rhymes, musical games, fun with percussion instruments and music and movement. The classes are fun but there’s a serious side too in that they provide huge benefits in the cognitive and social development of young babies and children.

Butterfly Ballet

For children from 2.5 years

The weekly classes introduce your child to ballet training in an imaginative and creative way. For children over the age of 5, the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus is taught and children can prepare and take the RAD examinations.

Fancy Footwork

For children from 18 months

Fancy Footwork Dance Academy runs courses for students as young as 18 months to adults. It’s a dance school in the traditional sense, with a real community feel where long-term friendships are forged. At age 3, children have the option to study Ballet, Tap & Modern Dance at drop-off sessions.

Tin Pan Annie

From babies from 4 months to 5 years

The fun-filled music classes accompanied by guitar are truly interactive and children soon learn the cues to dance, fill in the missing word in a song, expertly accompany songs with percussion instruments, and when to sit down and listen. There’s a theme for each class, for example ‘garden’ and the songs, rhymes, props and pictures all relate to that theme, reinforcing learning and ensuring the session hangs together.

Hartbeeps

From birth to toddlers

Each session takes “mini beeps” and grown-ups on a magical journey using over 100 original songs and baby raps, sound effects and funky remixes of traditional nursery rhymes. Imaginative props, music, lights, mini costumes, animal puppets, movement, massage, baby yoga, and signing are all mixed up to create a baby class which ticks all the boxes.

Mini Mozart

For babies birth to 4 years

Mini Mozart offers fun and interactive live music classes for toddlers and babies. The classes feature two or more live instruments; a clarinet, violin, flute, French horn, saxophone or trumpet with a piano accompanist.

Dantastic

For babies from 3 months to 4 years

Action packed, interactive, musical adventure classes aimed to inspire, educate, build confidence and improve fitness. Unique high energy classes include interactive songs, music, instruments, dancing, puppets, sensory activities, bubbles and much more with different themes each week.

Lucie Ashley Dance

For children from 2 years

Lucie Ashley Dance offer Royal Academy of Dance syllabus ballet classes in a friendly and professional environment. Fun movement classes are available for pre-schoolers, building confidence, coordination and introducing them to the wonderful world of ballet.

Emily’s Ensemble

For babies from 3 months to 4 years

Emily’s Ensemble provides music and movement classes for babies, toddler and preschoolers. Emily feels it’s so important for little ones from such an early to be able to express themselves through singing, dancing and music.

 

2. Swimming, Sport and Movement

Try Time Kids Rugby – see Clapham Mums article

For children between 2 to 7 years

Try Time Kids Rugby are passionate about getting children running around outside whatever the weather, being active, having loads of fun and learning valuable, lifelong skills. Kids rugby also teaches all the wonderful, wholesome principles like teamwork, respect, discipline and a bit of healthy competition!

For children from 3 years

Children yoga classes are intimate classes with no more than 6 children. Music, games, as well as other tools and activities, will help the children focus their minds and stretch their bodies while having fun.

Puddle Ducks Swimming Lessons

For babies from birth to 5 years

Puddle Ducks offers your baby a unique sensory experience and develops confidence in the water that lasts a lifetime, as well as truly magical one-to-one time for you and your new bundle of joy. The baby-led swimming approach ensures that your child’s needs are expertly fulfilled – never forcing development, but rather nurturing it to ensure a positive experience and love of swimming.

Julian Cousins Tennis

For children from 4 years

Julian runs classes at Clapham Common Westside for children aged four upwards. The classes are grouped by age with Mini tennis Red to Orange 4 – 7 yrs and Mini-tennis Orange to Green/Yellow 8-12 yrsand a Teenage Tennis on Mondays at 6pm for 13 years +.

Tumble Tots

From babies to 5 years

Tumble Tots is a fun ‘Active Physical Play Programme’ , where brightly coloured Tumble Tots equipment – including bridges, tunnels, balancing blocks and crash mats – are used to help children develop their physical skills from agility and balance through to co-ordination and climbing. The 45-minute sessions include supervisor-led songs and take place in a safe and friendly environment.

Open Air Fit

Drop in football for children from 2 years to 14 years – The weekly session runs on Wandsworth Common in the Dog Free Zone (the fenced off area next to the Skylark Cafe by Dorlcote Road). The kids are all split down into age groups so they’re working alongside others of a similar ability.

Mini Fit for pre-nursery children – Mini Fit classes provide structured physical activity sessions for pre-nursery children that give them the chance to develop movement and key skills through large-muscle activities. These help to build strong bones and muscles, improve social and emotional skills, and supports their ability to learn new concepts.

Water Babies

For babies from birth

Water babies invest heavily in making sure ours is the safest, most progressive, most sociable and most expert programme around. Classes are kept small and the fun, relaxed atmosphere creates a sense of camaraderie within the group, with carers – and children – often socialising together afterwards.

Playball

For children between 2 to 8 years

Playball classes help children develop fundamental building blocks of sport, agility balance and coordination, as well as the three key elements of physical fitness – endurance, strength and flexibility. Children are also introduced to a range of different sports skills for tennis, cricket, hockey, rugby, football, basketball, baseball and volleyball.

Gymboree

For children between 6 months to 5 years

Classes feature songs, bubbles and parachute time, and much more. Gymboree Play & Music classes help children build strength, co-ordination, social skills and early language skills.

Little Foxes Club

For children between 18 months to 11 years

Pre-school toddler and school children’s football classes have been specifically designed for the age bands and corresponding developmental level of the groups of children. Their football classes work in harmony and enhance the child’s natural development, using fun games and challenging activities to teach basic skills.

 

3. Messy Play and Creative Craft

Happy Tots Playgroup – see Clapham Mums article

For children under 5 years

The play group offers a wide range of activities for children- arts and crafts, soft play, games, dress up clothes, messy play, early learning development, and much more. There are walkers, tricycles, buggies, ball pit, and a wide range of books. There are fruits, crackers and breadsticks for the children to snack while they play.

Artful Toddler

For children 12 months to 6 years

Artful Toddler gives children from 12 months upwards the opportunity to express themselves through Arts and Crafts in a safe and friendly environment. Children love to get tactile with the different materials such as paint, clay and papier-mâché, and they are encouraged to get messy while they experiment.

Clapham Pottery

For children from 6 years

Children are taught how to make and decorate unique pieces, using a range of pottery techniques. They are encouraged to work from their own ideas by trained pottery tutors who have worked with children for many years.

Build it workshop

For children from 16 months

In this technological age are young children get enough opportunity to construct, build and make? Build-it workshops set to redress the balance.The classes “teach” by utilizing hands-on methods where the children themselves learn to be independent, creative and innovative.

Play with Clay

For children from 6 years

A really fun (and sometimes messy) way to spend a Saturday morning! The children are encouraged to use their own imaginations, as well as being given stimulating ideas for projects involving different techniques.

Arty Party

For children from 5 to 11 years

The children look at artists and current exhibitions for inspiration and work on a varied programme of activities creating 3D sculptures, drawings and paintings each term. The children have the chance to expand their techniques and artistic potential, whilst using high quality materials and they get to take all their wonderful creations home!

 

4. Cooking, Coding and Language

MAMA Codes – see Clapham Mums article

For girls and boys from 3 to 8 years

MAMA.codes is on a mission to start all young children on their coding journey and give every young child the confidence and ability to code. They run creative code clubs for children by introducing coding through song, rhyme and storytelling using ScratchJr.

Nano Spanish

For children between 1 to 3 years

Learn Spanish with your little one through body and movement exercises, games, action songs, instruments, scarves, tactile props, bubbles & more. The children will be introduced to the new language in a fun and interactive way.

Arc en ciel

For children between 3 to 9 years

Arc en ciel offer French and Spanish Immersion Classes for non-native children. The Immersion class will revolve around the visual arts, singing, storytelling , sports games, drama and playground games that children will be familiar with.

Cookease

For children between 2 to 4 years

Based in a friendly home kitchen environment in Wandsworth Common, the classes teach children important cooking skills together with a vital & early introduction to all food types, in a fun yet educational way.
