Mums and children just love Under the Greenwood Tree; it’s like the magical bookshops from your childhood, but with toys and a café as well.
If you’re looking for activities for young children in Clapham, this is not just a bookshop, it’s an option for an outing.
Right in the heart of Clapham Old Town, it’s got a great selection of books and toys aimed at children up to the age of 11, with a café providing coffee, tea, cakes and biscuits.
There are lots of toys for the children to play with while you have a look around the shop, so they can test out some of the products on offer. Kids can play with toys and books in the café too, leaving you in peace to have a sit down and a decent cup of tea or Fairtrade coffee.
Delicious cakes and biscuits are supplied by local mum and wonderful baker, Emily Hunt. There’s also a range of Ella’s Kitchen and Plum baby food and excellent baby-changing facilities including nappies and wipes. There’s lots of space for buggies in the store too.
As for the books themselves — well, there are more than 1,500 children’s titles along with some teen fiction, too. If they don’t have what you’re looking for in stock, a member of staff will order it for you.
As well as books, there’s a great range of toys from big brands such as Playmobil, Sylvanian Families, Brio and Meccano alongside some less well-known brands like Le Toy Van, Automoblox, Vilac and Djeco.
Under the Greenwood Tree also hosts story time sessions each Saturdays at 11am, as well as mini events, so keep an eye out for these on our calendar and on the UTGWT website.
