There are some great primary schools in the Clapham area and Honeywell is certainly one of them.
An infant school and a junior school share the three-storey building on the site in Honeywell Road and they’ve both been classed as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.
The infant school caters for children between the ages of three and seven, while the junior school teaches those aged eight to 11.
They’re both friendly schools, which aim to teach children to be confident, active members of society.
Ofsted says the infant school has gone from strength to strength, and provides rich experiences for all pupils — which is just what primary schools should be about.
Parents say it strikes the right balance between academic achievement and enjoyment and creativity.
The junior school is also very highly thought of and pupils perform well in their SATs and in their transfer to secondary schools.
There’s a strong tradition of sport too with lots of clubs outside the curriculum and art is another area where the school excels.
Like many good schools in the area, it’s not easy to get in. Places are awarded via Wandsworth council, and go to siblings first, then to children according to the distance they live from the school.
So if you live a few yards away, you’re likely to get in, but more than 500 metres away and you might be struggling. It all depends on how many sibling places are awarded in any particular year.
